The saddle backing keeps these from digging into my ears, which is a problem I've had with every other pair of thick hoops. At 3/4 inch they're the perfect size for everyday wear, big enough to notice but not so heavy they pull. Been wearing them daily for a few weeks and no irritation at all.
These thick hoops are surprisingly lightweight for their size, and the 3/4 inch diameter is just right for everyday wear. The saddle back stays secure without pinching.
